How to Appear  offline As Away on Facebook

Follow these steps

While using Facebook can be fun and helpful for keeping in touch with friends and family, it can also be a time-sink that absorbs a large portion of your day. Hiding your availability from some, or all, of your Facebook friends can help you resist temptation and avoid interruptions from chat requests. Here's how to appear as "away" on Facebook so you can increase your productivity.

 Steps

1. Launch your web browser.
   • You can use Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari or any other web browser application.
   
   
   
2. Navigate to the Facebook website, linked below in the Sources section, and log in with your user name and password in order to set your chat status.

1. Locate and click the "Chat" button at the bottom right corner of your browser window.
   • The chat window will expand up from the bottom of the screen, revealing any friends you have who are currently visiting Facebook. This is where you will appear as away.
   • The top of this chat window will feature an "Options" button.
   
   
2. Click "Options" and then click the "Go Offline" option. 
3. • You will now appear as away, or offline, to your friends. You will not be able to see which of your friends are currently online, either.
   • Clicking the "Chat" button again will revert your availability status to "Online" and you will be visible to any friends who are visiting the Facebook website.
   
   
4. Create "Friend Lists" in order to appear as away to only some of your friends. 
    
   • Click the "Chat" button, click "Friend Lists" and then enter a name in the text box for a new friend list. For instance, create a list that groups those of your Facebook friends who are also coworkers.
   • Click the "Friends" link under your profile picture on the main Facebook page and then clic​k the "Edit Friends" button at the top of the middle pane.
   • Hover your mouse over the first friend you want to add to this list. Click the "Edit Lists" option when it appears and then select the appropriate list. You can add each friend to more than one list.
   
   
5. Set your chat status to appear online or offline to only those in certain friend lists.
   • Click the "Chat" button again and note the toggle switches next to each friend list.
   • Click the toggle switch to appear offline to those friends in that list.
